Craig Jones has become the first rider to receive the Steve Hislop Memorial Trophy for the British Superbike Championship Young rider of the Year.
The Triumph Valmoto Supersport rider was chosen by a panel including former BSB champions Niall Mackenzie and John Reynolds, in recognition of his hard work during the Triumph team’s debut season.
The 18-year-old said:
" I didn’t know Hizzy very well but I did respect him a lot and the fact this is the first year of the award in his memory makes it much more special. "
" I think I deserved to win because I always give 100 per cent on the track and I worked really hard last season. It’s great for the team to receive something like this as well because they know they were doing something right. "
Jones did miss out on a presentation though, as the award, a silver champagne bucket, arrived unannounced via Parcel Force while Craig was away from home.
