Michael Rutter is out to overtake his dad Tony at the North West 200 on Saturday, May 15.

Tony won nine races at the North West 200 in the 250cc, 350cc, 500cc and Superbike classes between 1973 and 1982. Michael is only one victory away from equalling his father’s tally – and he is entered in four races – two legs each in Superbike and Supersport – on HM Plant Hondas.

Practice for the NW200 starts today, Tuesday May 11.

British superbike star Rutter, said: ” I’ve always really enjoyed competing in the Superbike class at the North West 200 and that’s where I’ve had most of my success. I can’t wait to try out the Fireblade on public roads for the first time and hopefully climb up the all-time winners rankings if everything goes according to plan. It would definitely make it a special event for me, if I could draw level with my dad’s total of eight wins. ”

Practice for the 2004 Junction One International North West 200 takes place on Tuesday 11 May and Thursday 13 May. Roads close at 10.30am and the first race is due to start at 11.30am on Saturday 15 May.

Riders are being urged to watch their speed as local police will be out in force.
