Ricky Carmichael has claimed the THQ/FIM World Supercross Championship for 2005, and looks set to also take the AMA Supercross series.

The 25-year-old Suzuki rider now has an unbeatable score, with Mike Larocco currently in second and Sebastien Tortelli in third. He clicnhed the title by taking third at the Seattle Supercross, behind James Stewart and Kevin Windham.

“It feels great to win the World Series,” said Carmichael. “It’s the only title I didn’t have and hopefully there will be another soon.”

There are two rounds of the AMA championship still to be run, with Carmichael heading the table by 30 points from reigning champion Chad Reed.

There was drama in Seattle as Reed crashed at the start of the 20-lap 250cc Main Event, remounting last. James Stewart took the holeshot and built a nine-second lead, as Reed began a comeback which almost saw him make the podium.

By halfway, Stewart had stretched a 13-second lead over Carmichael, who was under attack from both Kevin Windham and Chad Reed, with Windham eventually slipping through to take second.

In the 125cc event, Nathan Ramsey took the win from Andrew Short and Ivan Tedesco. With one round left, Tedesco leads the championship with 147 points, to Ramsey’s 116.
