One of Great Britain’s biggest bike races takes place this weekend in front of up to 120,000 fans – the North West 200.

The public roads race, which runs from Portstewart, Coleraine to Protrush in North Ireland takes place on Saturday. Michael Rutter, John McGuinness, Steve Plater and Adrian Archibald are among the star names in a battle for prizes worth £175,000 on race day.

The re-introduced 250cc Race has generated 25 entries with a number of Europeans entering for the first time. Former British Champion Garry Dickinson, local rider Denver Robb and Nigel Beattie – who finished third in the lightweight race at last year’s TT – are among them. European riders include Germans Norman Rank and Rico Mendel, European Championship racer Thomas Pallander from Sweden and Benny Jerzenbeck and Michal Filla from the Czech Republic .

Race day (May 21) includes: 9.35am : Wild Geese parachutists arrive with the start/finish flags, 10.15am – 10.30am : Air Display over the Coast Road 10.00am – 6.30pm : Roads Close 11.00am – 6.30pm : Junction One International NW200 Races
