Rider dies in TT practice

The second practice session for the Isle of Man TT was marred by the death of a Swedish rider on the first lap.

39-year-old Joakim Karlsson from Habo Jonkoping in Sweden crashed his Suzuki GSX-R1000 at Kirkmichael. No further details have yet been released about the accident but the investigations are continuing and the Coroner of Inquests has been informed.

Karlsson was competing for the first time in the TT but was an experienced rider in Scandinavian races.

In the rest of the practice session John McGuinness finished with the fastest time on his Superbike Yamaha R1 with a best lap of 18:06.27 and an average speed of 125.041mph, followed by Ryan Farquhar on the Kawasaki and Adrian Archibald on the Suzuki.

The fastest lap on a Supersport 600 bikes was set by Farquhar at 18:42.83/120.969mph followed by John McGuinness and Martin Finnegan.

Adrian Archibald topped the Superstock listings on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 at 18:34.27/121.899mph followed by Richard Britton on a Honda Fireblade and Archibalds team-mate Bruce Ansty.

Nick Crowe and Darren Hope topped the sidecar tables on their DMR Honda at 20:19.16/111.411mph.
