Vote for TT racer

You can make bike racer Maria Costello the BBC East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year.

Voting has now started and Costello, the fastest woman around the Isle of Man TT circuit, and the first solo woman to make the podium on the Isle of Man, is up against word record breaking sailor Ellen MacArthur, Leicester and England rugby player Martin Corry, and Hucknall Town player manager Dean Barrick.

“It’s so fantastic to be mentioned in a line up with Ellen MacArthur,” said Costello. “Wouldn’t it be fantastic to put both my county and motorcycle racing on the map by winning this award, and it’s a public vote which is just so exciting.”

In October, Costello won the BBC Northamptonsire Sports Personality of the Year award. If she wins the East Midland award, then she would go through to the national finals on December 11, 2005.

To vote, call 0901-1115757. Calls cost 25 pence and lines close at 9am on Friday December 2. You’ll need to answer a question to be entered into a draw for two tickets for the awards ceremony, which is held at De Montfort Hall in Leicester on Monday, December 5, 2005.
