Dakar: Stage 8

Stage eight of the Paris-Dakar has seen Frenchman David Casteu take the stage win on his KTM from Blais and Cyril Despres, who had led the race int he early stages before a crash on stage seven.

The overall lead is held by Marc Coma, who finished Saturday’s stage in fifth place following a navigation problem which also demoted Esteve, Sala, and De Gavado down the order. Stage winner Casteu attributed his victory on the day to following Despres and his navigation, before dedicating his win in memory of Fabrizio Meoni.

Top Brit Mick Extance had a good day, finishing the stage in 21st overall, jumping back up the overall eladerboard to 36th place. Nick Plumb finished the stage in 80th, to achieve 65th overall.
