Mondello BSB wash-out

The Mondello Park round of the British Superbike championship was canceled on Sunday after heavy rain caused the track to flood.

Circuit staff tried desperately to drain the water from the track, even bringing in extra equipment, but by 2pm it became clear that it was still not safe to race and the event was called off.

“Due to the constant heavy rain we have been unable to prepare the circuit in a manner suitable for competition. We ran ‘warm-up’ sessions for Superbikes, Superstock and Supersport to assess the circuit, and constantly reviewed the conditions. At 14.00hrs, in consultation with the Mondello Park circuit and Dorna the decision was jointly made to cancel the event,” explained race director Stuart Higgs.

The Superbike races will not be re-arranged. The British 125GP race will be re-scheduled for Mallory Park on 4 June, and no decision has been made about the Supersport and Superstock races.
