NW200: Plater's double

1 of 1

Honda’s Steve Plater took a double win in today’s sun-baked NW200 Superbike races.

More than 70,000 people watched as the HM Plant Honda FireBlade rider pushed through the pack to chase down Michael Rutter in race one.

Rutter crashed while leading in the Juniper Hill chicane on the last lap, gifting the win to Plater who crossed the line side-by-side with TAS Suzuki’s Bruce Anstey

Anstey was second, HM Plant Honda rider John McGuiness was third, UL Duncan Honda FireBlade rider Cameron Donald was fourth.

In race two, Rutter set a blistering pace but Plater wasn’t going to be denied a second race win. He smashed the lap record twice during the race and passed Rutter on the final lap to take his second victory of the day.

In the 125cc race, Robert Dunlop took an emotional 15th North West win, his first in 12 years, after edging out race leader Michael Wilcox on the final lap. Both the Supersport and Superstock races went to New Zealander Bruce Anstey, who had a tough battle with Ian Hitchinson and Raymond Porter in the Superstock event. And the 250cc race was won by Nigel Beattie.
