The Silkolene Short Track UK national championships returns to the South Tees Motor Park next weekend for the opening round of the season.

The home of the Redcar Bears speedway team will play host to the US-style racing on Saturday, March 29, 2008 and their team manager, Glyn Taylor knows all about this style of racing.

The once Australian international is set to make a return to track racing at the South Tees track.

Northallerton’s Rusty Hodgson will also be a welcome competitor as he has signed up for the 2008 championship. But appearances will be limited due to work commitments.

The former Yamaha R6 road-racer said: “I’ve got a job installing outward-bound courses and this is literally going to take me around the world during 2008.

“I actually need to fly in all the way from Portugal – where I’ll have been up in the trees building an ab-seiling framework – for Saturday’s event at Redcar!

“But I’m serious about challenging for this title and am receiving fantastic backing from Dynomax and CCM and will be delighted to be racing at the Motor Park again.”

Other riders to look out for include double Short Track UK champion Marco Belli, who will be riding a CCM this year, fellow Italian and Harley Davidson man Jacopo Monti and reigning Thunderbikes champion Peter Boast plus multi-grasstrack national champion Paul Cooper from North Yorkshire.

Racing will get underway at 4.30pm starting with the Quads and qualifying for the main Short Track UK race. Also on the bill are the Thunderbikes and the CCM Junior Shorttrack Cup is open to racers between 12 and 15 years of age.

The finals and the 18-heat knock-out format for the Short Track UK championship will start at 7pm.

Admission is £10 for adults and £7 for concessions, £3 for children aged 12-15 years while children under 12 get free admission when accompanied by an adult.
