McGuinness to race in Barbon Hillclimb

1 of 2

Ever wondered what a TT racing legend like John McGuinness does in his spare? Well he rides motorcycles of course.

It’s well documented that McGuinness is a big speedway fan and bought an ex-Jason Crump World Championship bike to ride. He also rides off-road with his mates (a lot of them from the BSB community) and supermoto and this weekend he’ll be racing his supermoto, in the Barbon Manor Hillclimb.

It’s not any old supermoto either – it’s a CRF450 Honda that belonged to McGuinness’ great friend, the late David Jefferies.

This weekend is the 49th Percy Duff Barbon Motorcycle Hill Climb, run by the Westmorland Motor Club in the beautiful parkland setting of Barbon Manor, Nr Kirkby Lonsdale.

As well as some spectacular racing,  off-track there’s the world famous Purple Helmets display team and on display will be the Kawasaki World Superbikes from Penrith-based Paul Bird Motorsport as well as one of McGuinness’ HM Plant Honda TT bikes – plus vintage bikes from the local club.

Gates open at 9.00am for a full day’s entertainment, for both adults and children. Admission is £8 for adults, kids go free, and there’s various other concessions.
Barbon Manot is signposted from Jct 36 of the M6, a mile up the road from Devil’s Bridge.
