Is Peter Hickman your 2018 MCN Racer of the Year?

1 of 1

After another epic season of racing, MCN’s sports team of Michael Guy (Sports Editor), Simon Patterson (MotoGP reporter) and Oli Rushby (Superbike reporter) sat down to discuss who impressed them the most in each race series we cover – and to whittle down a shortlist of exactly who was the most impressive racers of the season.

With that in mind, we’ve came up with a list of seven – but we need your help to cut that down to award the 59th running of our Racer of the Year award!

Peter Hickman

Every now and then at the Isle of Man TT, someone has the sort of week that changes everything at the iconic race – and in 2018 it was Peter Hickman. Blitzing the outright lap record time and again through the week and taking two wins, he ended the fortnight the fastest ever man with an average 135.452mph lap.

Building and getting faster every year since his debut in 2014, five podiums last year always meant that this going to be the year where Hickman would be going to the island expecting to win. And that’s exactly what he did, and after being denied the chance by a DNF in the opening race he managed victories in the Superstock and Superbike races as well as finishing on the podium in the two Supersport races.

As well as his TT success, Hickman also had plenty of successes elsewhere too. Taking another Macau Grand Prix win, he also completed a dream season by making it through into the top six Showdown in the British Superbike Championship.
