British Superbikes: Cal Crutchlow's Race of the Year winning celebrations cut short

Cal Crutchlow’s Mallory Park Race of the Year-winning celebrations on Sunday night were cut short after he suffered a massive allergic reaction to something he ate half an hour after the race.

The Rizla Suzuki rider virtually collapsed after eating some apple pie and spent the next two and half hours in the circuit medical centre while doctors tries to stabilise his condition.

Cal Crutchlow said: I’ve always been allergic to nuts and the pie had almonds in it. I mean you don’t expect that do you?

“I can eat a handful of peanuts but almonds have always brought the worst reaction. I had difficulty breathing, had chest pains and the medical staff wanted to send me to hospital.

“I was still throwing up until about 9.30pm when I finally got to sleep. I’m gutted, I had a big night out planned to celebrate the end of the season but had to cancel it.”

Cal Crutchlow is still refusing to reveal his 2008 plans though admits he’s not longer with Suzuki.

Speculation is rife he had signed to ride for HM Plant Honda. He had also been talking with Stobart Honda and Airwaves Ducati, though their future in British Superbikes is still uncertain.
