Plater still unsure of 2010 plans

Like everyone else Steve Plater is waiting to hear about Louth-based Honda Racing’s plans for 2010.

He told MCN: “Obviously I’ve spoken to Honda about next year but I’ve heard nothing since so I’ve no plans formulated for next year. I want to be racing and ideally I’d like to be back in the superbike class.

“I’m guessing Honda though would like me to defend my British Supersport title.”

Honda Racing, like many of the BSB teams is still thought to be chasing the neccesary backing before making any official announcement about their 2010 plans.

Plater said: “It’s a weird time. Normally riders are signed by now but the only two I know of who have been confirmed for next year are Stuart Easton with Hydrex and Yukio Kagayama with Worx Suzuki.”

Plater was also a key figure in Honda’s roads programme this year but right now, he’s not even sure he’ll be going back to race at the North West or TT.

“Again it’s down to what Honda want to do,” he admitted. “I’ve said what I need to go back but I’m not sure whether I will or not.

“I’ve won eight times at the North West and got a couple of lap records. I’ve won twice at the TT in three years and a race record.

“I don’t want to sound smart or cocky, but how long do I want to keep going back? I’m no spring chicken. But having said that, I’ll go back – but it has to be worth my while. I’ll not ride for nothing. I never have and never will.”

Away from racing Plater is busy instructing at track days in Spain. “I’ve still got five trips to Spain to do before Christmas and by then I’ll have done 45 flights and 12 ferry trips this year.

“It’s been a busy year but a lot of fun too.”
