Knight wins Natterjack Enduro

Kawasaki rider David Knight brought his participation in the 2009 British Enduro Championship to a winning close by topping the final day of the REME-organised Natterjack Enduro.

The fastest rider on both days of the event, Manxman Knight suffered clutch problems on day one, which forced him out of the final results but on day two, he comfortably finished ahead of visiting Frenchman Christophe Nambotin.

Although disappointed not to be a classified finisher on day one, Knight recorded the fastest special test times on all but the opening three special tests due to his problems. Using the Natterjack Enduro as final training ahead of the International Six Days Enduro in Portugal in two weeks’ time, Knight was supremely confident on the fast, flowing motocross test and looked more than comfortable on the tight and twisty and in places technical enduro test.

Determined to make up for his day one disappointment, Knight started day two by topping the opening special test by 13s, eventually going on to win each and every one of the remaining five tests, thus ending the day some 49s ahead of his closest rival.

Knight said: “The first day was a complete disaster as I lost my clutch half way through the first test but managed to get to the end and only lost a few seconds and that was the case again on the second test but I won all of the other tests quite easily.

“It was good having Nambotin competing in the UK. It gave me someone to go for. We got the clutch fixed for day two and I had a great day and I didn’t have any problems or make any mistakes.

“I wasn’t too keen on the enduro test before the event, but after it got rough and rutted it was really great practice for the ISDE.

“It’s been about eight years since I last raced the Natterjack and ending the British championship with a winning result, at an event where the sun was shining and the terrain was dry, has been good.”
