Seeley tests superbike

Recently-crowned National Superstock champion Alastair Seeley has been testing the Relentless by TAS Suzuki superbike at Kirkistown today in preparation for a potential MCE BSB debut at Silverstone next weekend.

Seeley rode the Magneti Marelli-equipped GSX-1000 that Atsushi Watanbe has been racing in BSB this year and team boss Philip Neill told MCN: “He’s had a handful of laps on it before but this was the first chance he’s had to really get some time on the bike and adjust it to suit him.

“He’s settled into it so well and clocked a best lap of 54.4 which is way inside his own lap record of 55.9s which he did on his stocker. I’m really impressed with the way he’s gone.

“He’s still got a chance of winning the Irish championship so he’s riding it this weekend’s round at Anglesey (in Wales!).”

Ian Lowry and Michael Laverty were also at the test. Lowry was there to practice his starts and did limited laps, while Laverty was there to get acquainted with the superbike.

Neill said: “I promised Michael at the start of the year he could race the bike at the Sunflower International (October 17/18) and this was the only chance for him to get a shot on the bike before then.”
