Nine-times British Supermoto Champion, Christian Iddon has signed to ride for the Oxford Tag Triumph team in next year’s British Supersport championship.

The 25-year-old from Derbyshire will join Paul Young, Billy McConnell and Shaun Winfield in a four-rider line-up for 2011.

Iddon only recently made the switch from supermoto to road racing with a few club races in 2008 and early 2009, before lining up on the grid in no less than four different British championship classes last year, gaining experience in BSB with SMT Honda, Supersport with GNS Racing as well as superstock 1000 and 600.

Iddon said: “This year was my first full season of road racing and what looked like being a dream year in BSB ended up becoming quite unsettled.

“I had a few options for 2011 but when the opportunity to race with the Oxford Tag Triumph team in Supersport came up I knew it was the right one for me. It was the most concrete and the team have big plans.

“I’ve had long talks with the team owner, Rob Winfield, and I’m feeling confident that with the Oxford Tag Triumph team I’ll be able to learn to go fast in this class, enjoy my racing and start achieving the results I know that I’m capable of without the burden of huge pressure and expectation.

Rob Winfield, Oxford Tag Triumph team owner added: “We had a few riders test the bike before we made a decision and, while it was close on outright lap times, we decided to give Christian the opportunity based on his personality and his potential.

“A lot of people are quick to forget that he’s only recently made the switch from Supermoto to full-on race bikes. What he’s done in a short time is very impressive, posting lap times across different classes that a lot of seasoned riders would be proud of.

“There’s been no continuity though, and I think that being in a settled team with two experienced team-mates in Paul Young and Billy McConnell will really help Christian to fulfil his potential.”
