Martin Jessopp due operation today

Martin Jessopp is due to have an operation today on the right tibia and fibula he broke in a crash at Mallory on Sunday.

Jessopp crashed the Riders Ducati on the third lap of the opening race, colliding with Motorpoint Yamaha’s Dan Linfoot and is due to have the tib and fib pinned at Leicester Royal Infirmary before being transferred to a hospital nearer home in Yeovil.

Jessopp said: “Once the leg is pinned I should be able to transfer to a hospital nearer to home. I have also broken my left foot and that will be just a waiting game for that to mend, so it is all pretty frustrating really.

“I haven’t seen the full footage but I just had the front collected and that was it. I was having a good weekend until then and the Ducati was working really well as Michael showed, so I was on for some solid points and looked good to stay inside the top ten overall.

“The first thing I asked the surgeon was when they thought I could get back on the bike but we will have to wait to see what happens after the operation.

“I was looking forward to Knockhill and for the second year in a row I won’t be out on the grid. It’s obviously disappointing but now I have to focus on my recovery and go from there.”
