Shakey on epic 200 mile cycle for CJ Riders Fund

If you’re on the roads today between Brands hatch, Snetterton and Silverstone, keep your eyes open for a mini-peleton of cyclists led by triple MCE British Superbike champion Shane Byrne, as the Kent rider embarks on an epic 200+ mile cycle ride to raise money for the CJ Riders Fund.

Starting with a lap of Brands Hatch, Byrne’s local track, the group of six will then ride to Snetterton in Norfolk to complete a lap of the track where Shakey took a BSB double win only weeks ago, before finishing with a lap of the iconic Silverstone track this afternoon. The total journey is expected to take some 12 hours.

The money raised is going to the CJ Riders Fund, set up after Red Bull Rookie Chris Jones lost his life racing in the 125GP class. They provide medical diagnosis equipment to the BSB paddock as well as the much-used physio services available to all riders.

Byrne said: “I am never one to shy away from a challenge and it would be very easy for me to simply raise money by donating some memorabilia, but there are a lot of dedicated people in the Championship medical team and I wanted to do them justice. It is an ambitious ride, especially as we are doing it all in one day, but I have been training hard and I intend to give it everything I have got.”
