Buchan ‘surprised by easy pace’ at Donington pace

Be Wiser Kawasaki rider Danny Buchan has been left surprised by how easy the lap times that left him second fastest overall after Thursday’s Donington Park test came to him.

Buchan ended the day second behind Shane Byrne, only 0.2 off the four time champion’s best time of the day.

Speaking afterwards, he told MCN: “We were out there chipping away and the times were coming really easy; it wasn’t strenuous at all. I wouldn’t say finishing second was a surprise as the package we have with the Be Wiser Kawasaki is more than capable of running at the front, but the bike is still far from perfect and there is so much more still to come. To come away second behind the reigning champion is a good start and I have a great team behind me so we are really excited to see what we can do next weekend.”

Former champion and team boss Tommy Hill added: “It’s been a good start but we obviously want to keep moving forward. What we need to remember is that we are a new team and we can’t forget that. We started with a blank sheet of paper and I am really happy and getting such a buzz from working with the team to keep improving.

“I do see in Danny a bit of what I could see in myself when I first started, where you want to ride and do the best you can straight away when you get into the Superbike class. But that is where I am taking my competitiveness and driving it back into the team and making it all work for the riders.”
