The Milwaukee Yamaha squad have had their first test of the 2015 season at Alcarras in Spain. Aussie duo Josh Brookes and Broc Parkes tested the new YZF R1 they will ride in this year’s series as part of Yamaha’s first official three day test for the European teams that will race the new bike.

“I don’t really feel that I am up to speed yet in my head>” Brookes said candidly after Wednesday’s session.

“I need a couple of days on the bike to click so maybe at the minute I am not offering the team my best service.”

The Bringelly man said he felt “positive” about the new bike.

“There is plenty of learning going on at the minute.” He smiled.

“Everything is all so different with this new bike and both the team and me are trying to find our way around it.”

Parkes echoed these sentiments.

“I’m pretty happy with where we are considering its our first test.” he said.

“The bike definitely has plenty of potential and we are finding good things from it. We have changed lots of things today, everything really. We are finding the direction we have to go in as we don’t have any data for the bike at this stage.”

Brookes spent the second day of the test focussed on trying to get more feel from the front end.

“I feel like I have to lean over too far to get the bike to steer at the minute.” he explained.

“We are still waiting for some special new parts like a rear link and a new swinging arm so the real show will begin when they arrive. But its great that we have been able to spend so much time out on track because with a new bike you usually spend most of the time in the garage!”
