BSB: 'I need to win' admits champion Byrne
Five time MCE British Superbike Champion admits he needs to return to winning ways at Oulton Park this weekend after a disastrous start to the 2017 season.
Byrne has scored just 13 points so far this year after missing both races at Donington Park with concussion and then dramatically crashing out of the second race at Brands Hatch last time out.
However, despite being yet to stand on the rostrum the Be Wiser Ducati man has his eyes firmly set on victory after a strong feeling at Brands Hatch and a positive test at Oulton Park last week.
While Byrne wasn’t 100% happy with the Panigale’s set-up, he set the second quickest time of the test behind rival Leon Haslam.

However, Cheshire’s Oulton Park wasn’t too kind to Byrne and the Ducati last year, where he finished 9th, DNF and 5th last September.
“It seems all I’ve gone on about lately is getting my season started,” Byrne admits. “Donington Park didn’t go to plan at all and then Brands Hatch wasn’t what we needed so onwards and upwards. We tested recently at Oulton Park and got some important miles under our belts and even though I wasn’t 100% happy with the bike, we still ended up second fastest so hopefully we can build on that. The fact remains and is quite simple, I need to win and that’s my intention.”
