BSB: Byrne keen to get back on track

One face missing as testing for the 2017 MCE British Superbike season got underway in Spain last week was reigning champion Shane Byrne and his Be Wiser PBM Ducati team.

The Penrith-based set-up have already been out twice this year for tests at Jerez and Portimao in January, and while Byrne would have liked to have been out in Spain last week the team have been busy preparing his Panigale R with a host of new parts for the season ahead in conjunction with Ducati.

Expecting a brand new swing arm and exhaust from Italy for the start of the season, Byrne and team-mate Irwin will next be out on track for the official test at Donington Park on March 22nd and there is also provision for the team to head out in the week between the official test and round one the following weekend.

“Of course, seeing everybody out in Spain, I’d have loved to be out riding my bike!” Byrne told MCN. “But the team are really busy right now making sure we have the best package possible for the start of the season. The bike and some of the team have been back and forth to the Ducati factory in Italy working on a number of upgrades.

“I’m looking forward to getting back out on track at Donington and then we are likely to test again in the week before the season starts.”
