BSB: Laverty returns to Tyco BMW for 2018

Michael Laverty will return to the Tyco BMW squad for the 2018 British Superbike Championship.

The Ulsterman parted ways with the Neill family outfit at the end of the 2016 season, but after a disastrous year with the McAMS Yamaha team, thought to be down to misdirection in the electronics department, he will return in 2018 alongside former team-mate Christian Iddon.

The move comes as big changes are expected at Tyco BMW as they look to rectify a troublesome couple of years after missing out on the BSB Showdown for two consecutive seasons.

MCN understands the squad will make a switch to Ohlins suspension, with Laverty running the new kit for his return to the team at this weekend’s Sunflower Trophy at Bishopscourt.

“I’m delighted to be returning to the Tyco BMW squad for the 2018 season,” he said. “We enjoyed success together taking race wins in 2015 and 2016. A dip in form lead to a year’s sabbatical, which didn’t prove fruitful, although the experience gained this season will make me a stronger rider. I’m thankful that Philip and the guys within the team have belief in my ability and looked beyond my results this year. To get back on-board the Tyco BMW S1000RR and work with the TAS engineers once again, is the perfect scenario for me.”
