Shane Byrne stormed to pole position for this afternoon’s opening MCE British Superbike race with the quickest ever lap of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

Byrne’s time of 1’24.163 is some 0.451 seconds faster than his own outright lap record set at Brands earlier in July.

The Be Wiser Ducati star was 0.544sec ahead of Josh Brookes, who clinched second on the grid in the dying moments of the final qualifying session which was momentarily interrupted after a crash for John Hopkins at Paddock Hill.

Christian Iddon completes the front row for Tyco BMW, knocking series leader Leon Haslam off the front row after the JG Speedfit Kawasaki man crashed at Druids as the session resumed after the first flag.

Jason O’Halloran starts fifth for Honda ahead of team-mate Jason O’Halloran, while James Ellison, Jake Dixon and Hopkins round out the top nine after Peter Hickman and Sylvain Guintoli failed to make it through to Q3.
