BSB: Buchan to race FS3 Kawasaki at Assen

1 of 1

Danny Buchan will return to the MCE British Superbike class at Assen this weekend with the Quattro Plant FS3 Kawasaki team.

Buchan, who leads the National Superstock 1000 championship by 15 points ahead of rival Richard Cooper, will stand in for the injured Billy McConnell on the team’s ZX-10RR as BSB makes its annual pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Speed.

McConnell has been out since a nasty highside at Thruxton in August saw him dislocate his femur, at this stage it’s not known whether the Aussie will be able to return to the series for the final round at Brands Hatch.

Buchan is no stranger to the Superbike class, but has in the past struggled in the top class despite his rapid Superstock pace.

He was scheduled to test with the team at Donington Park last week, but ended up missing the opportunity after sitting on a closed M1 for most of the day following the discovery of a suspicious package.

“I am excited to get this opportunity as I didn’t get to ride at Assen last year and it is one of the races I had looked forward to the most,” Buchan said. “I have to thank my Morello Racing team for letting me join Quattro Plant FS-3 Kawasaki for the weekend and I have no real expectations. I am going to Assen to fill in for Billy and do the best job I can for the team.

“It will be a great experience for me as I really didn’t want to watch the Assen round from the sofa. I am looking forward to getting my eye in and get back on a Superbike, especially as it is a Kawasaki so it shouldn’t be such a big transition. I know what to expect and I am looking forward to mixing it again with the boys as there is no better prep for the final round of the Superstocks at Brands Hatch than that!”
