Six-time Bennetts British Superbike Champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne remains in hospital after a crash at Thursday’s official Snetterton test.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider sustained neck and back injuries when he fell from his Panigale R at turn three. The session was red flagged and Byrne was taken to the medical centre before being transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he remains under observation for a range of injuries.

The 41-year-old is set to undergo surgery early next week to stabilise a number of spinal fractures before further treatment can commence for his other injuries.

A statement from series organisers confirmed the BSB medical team are liaising closely with Byrne’s family and the hospital regarding his condition with a further update set to be provided post-surgery.

Motorcycle News joins the wider racing community in sending best wishes to Byrne, his wife Petra and the rest of the family at this difficult time.
