Edwards tops GP practice

Colin Edwards has topped a wet first practice session for the Catalunya GP, closely followed by his team-mate Valentino Rossi.

Edwards set a best lap of 1:43.651 in the rain soaked practice session but Rossi was just marginally slower posting a time only 0.001 seconds down.

Marco Melandri took the third fastest time four tenths of a second down on Rossi with Honda rider Nicky Hayden and Alex Barros finishing the top five.

John Hopkins took his Suzuki to the sixth fastest time followed by Sete Gibernau, Loris Capirossi, Shinya Nakano and Troy Bayliss.

Max Biaggi only managed to come home with the 12th fastest time behind the Ducati of Carlos Checa.
