Melandri top in Sepang

1 of 1

Marco Melandri dominated the first day of MotoGP testing at Sepang, Malaysia, lapping well inside the lap record.

Fellow Honda rider Dani Pedrosa used his first outing in full Repsol livery to take the second fastest time followed by Colin Edwards on the Yamaha.

John Hopkins took his Suzuki to the fourth fastest time, 0.5 seconds down on Melandri, with Valentino Rossi just 0.05 seconds behind.

After stunning everyone with his pace in earlier tests Sete Gibernau finished the session with the 11th fastest time.

Rossi and Edwards spent most of the session trying to iron out the vibration problems that bothered them in Qatar last week.
