Roberts tops 1st practice

Kenny Roberts Jr has gone fastest in the opening practice session for the German MotoGP round on Sunday, July 16, 2006, with a time of 1:24.319 on the Team Roberts KR211V.

He heads a trio of Hondas, with Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner and Marco Melandri all recording times close to Roberts. John Hopkins was fifth fastest, just quicker than Valentino Rossi. Melandri’s team-mate Toni Elias is 16th, returning after fracturing his left shoulder at the Assen round. Britain’s James Ellison is 19th with a time of 1:27.616.
