Surgery for Gibernau

1 of 1

Sete Gibernau may miss the next round of the MotoGP championship at Brno in the Czech Republic after an operation to correct problems with the titanium plate inserted in his left collarbone.

Gibernau broke his collarbone in the first corner crash at the Catalunya round on June 18, 2006. As a result a previous plate was removed, and a larger titanium one inserted, with Gibernau taking part in both the German and US GPs.

Following the US round at Laguna Seca, the Spanish Ducati rider went for a check-up and complications were discovered, caused by a weakening of the plate itself. Gibernau underwent surgery on Wednesday, July 26, and should be able to ride at the next race on August 20, but will only be confirmed following a medical check on Wednesday August 2, 2006.
