Webb injured in crash

British teenager Danny Webb will need a late fitness check before deciding whether he can ride in the final 125 winter test session in Qatar next week.

The 15-year-old scraped skin off three fingers on his left hand in a vicious highside exiting the final corner today as the Jerez 125 IRTA test ended in bitterly cold and wet conditions.

The Molenaar Honda rider was wearing a sling to protect the heavily bandaged left hand. He will fly to Qatar next week for the final IRTA test, but no decision has been taken yet on whether he will be fit to ride.

He crashed on his 10th lap of the day having just set his best time of 2.07.477 and the former MotoGP Academy rider said: “Conditions were pretty tough out there and I was pushing a bit.

“I’ll go to Qatar and hopefully I’ll be riding, but there is no pressure from the team.

“If I can’t ride then I’ll rest to make sure the hand is better for the first race.”

Webb also crashed yesterday at turn eight but escaped injury.
