Rear progress for Colin

Colin Edwards has been boosted by a breakthrough with rear set-up on his new factory Yamaha 800.

Edwards experimented with yet another new Ohlins rear shock set-up having made a significant breakthrough previously in testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.

“The set-up on the rear was completely different to what we had in Malaysia. That’s good because now we have options. We’ve been stuck in a rut before with things that work at one track and not at another. Now we have got completely different rear settings that we can always try another other depending on the track,” said Edwards, who said the new options had not sacrificed braking stability, which had been the big area of improvement in Sepang.

He added: “We still got the braking stability. One setting is for a flat, no bump track and one for a bumpier track like Malaysia. We never really had options and now its looking good.”

Edwards said he was still looking for more improvements before the first race in Qatar on March 10, 2007 and he said: “We can still play around with the rear and the whole goal with the setting we have got is to make the bike good in the last ten laps. I think a click here and there will make it better.”
