Kenny Roberts’ British-based squad has held tentative discussions with MV Agusta about a future racing collaboration in either World Superbikes or MotoGP.

Further talks about a possible tie-up will be held during the MotoGP summer break after Laguna Seca this weekend, even though MV has a deal in place to enter WSB next season with a team run by Carl Fogarty.

Team Roberts’ boss Chuck Aksland confirmed the discussions, with the Banbury-based squad exploring several potential future options: “We had some conversations back in January with MV and nothing really came of it.

“I made a call in June and their intention is to go World Superbike.
Until we have more conversations and know their plans and goals, it’s all speculation. Maybe they want to come MotoGP in the future,” said Aksland.

MCN understands Ducati has told Roberts to keep them informed of developments with their engine supply problems. Aksland didn’t name them as such, but said: “There may be flexibility with another manufacturer.”
