125 riders suffer as monsoon conditions hit Mugello

This afternoon’s first qualifying session for the 125s was hampered by a thunder storm and monsoon conditions. 

Spain’s Hector Faubel was quickest on the Italian circuit at Mugello with a time of 2:15.309.

The Aprilia man was 14 seconds down on his morning time and more than 16 seconds slower than the fastest time set by Mattia Pasini.

Several riders fell during the session as they struggled to cope with torrential rain, thunder and lightning, which started just after the beginning of their session.

One of the fallers was Britain’s Danny Webb who finished outside of the required 107 per cent of the fastest time with a fastest lap of 2:33.342.

Oxford rider Bradley Smith also struggled with the conditions and was another non-qualifier and will have to improve on today in order to make the grid for Sunday’s race.
