Edwards remains upbeat

Colin Edwards is confident he will bounce back from his disappointing start to the new MotoGP world championship campaign at the second round in Jerez this weekend.

The American was sixth in the season’s opening race in Qatar, which fell well below expectations after he’d enjoyed the best winter testing campaign of his career.

The double World Superbike champion hadn’t been outside the top three in the last four winter tests and continued his good form by grabbing a front row grid position in Doha.

But what had promised so much ended in disappointment as Edwards hit tyre problems with his Fiat Yamaha YZR-M1.

He said: “It’s hard to be pissed off when I rode my ass off in Qatar.

“There is nothing more I could have done. Am I disappointed in the result, ‘hell yeah, but I’m still happy with the way I’m riding?

“Expectations were a hell of a lot higher but we’ll be back in Jerez.”
