Australian MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo fastest 250 rider in qualifying practice one

Aprilia’s Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest man in the first 250 qualifying practice in Phillip Island and has put himself on provisional pole position for Sunday’s race.

The Spanish rider, who will be heading to MotoGP next year, recorded a best time of 1:33.641 just 0.7secs ahead of fellow countryman Hector Barbera.

Alex de Angelis made it an Aprilia top three with his 1:34.820 on his 19th lap of 21.

Ireland’s Eugene Laverty will need to find some pace from somewhere tomorrow if he is to take part in the 250 MotoGP on Sunday as he missed the required 107 per cent time of 1:40.195. He was only able to complete four laps with his best of 2:01.777 on the first of those.
