Estoril MotoGP: Bradley Smith and Danny Webb crash unhurt

1 of 1

British duo Bradley Smith and Danny Webb have walked away from first 125GP free practice crashes at a cool, wet and windy Estoril this morning.

Spanish GP podium finisher Smith ended the session with the eighth best time despite a crash with 18 minutes remaining. The 17-year-old was one of several victims on an opening morning run in varying weather conditions, with torrential rain and gusting winds key factors.

Smith clocked a best time of 2.05.053 and he was the pick of the Brits, though he was still 2.960s adrift of reigning world champion Gabor Talmacsi, who was fastest with a best of 2.02.093.

Webb, who only had the stitches removed from the nasty gash on his ring finger suffered in Jerez last month, was down in 20th as he clocked a best time of 2.07.208 on his last lap.

Webb had earlier tumbled off his Aprilia machine unhurt when he lost the rear in slippery conditions exiting the tight uphill chicane.

Rookie Scott Redding, making his first appearance at the Estoril track, posted the 13th best time. The Gloucester teenager logged a best of 2.06.216.
