Bradley Smith second in Jerez 125GP test

Bradley Smith’s impressive start to the 2009 pre-season testing campaign ended with the British teenager posting the second quickest time at the Jerez circuit.

The Aspar Aprilia rider slashed a full second off his best time set on day two as he was the only rider to lap within a second of hugely impressive team-mate Julian Simon.

Smith’s best lap of 1.47.807 – just 0.4s off the lap record – was still nearly 0.7s slower than Simon, who has dominated the three-day session.

Simon topped the timesheets again with a best of 1.47.125.

Smith’s compatriot Scott Redding also managed to slash a big chunk off his previous best time on the final day. A 1.49.170 in his 71-laps was 1.1s quicker than he’d been on the second day, but the Blusens Aprilia rider was plagued by handling issues on the new 2009 Aprilia as he ended up two seconds adrift of Spaniard Simon.
