Suzuki waiting on Alvaro Bautista decision

Alvaro Bautista could become a factory Suzuki rider in the next two weeks.

The Spaniard, who is currently leading the 250GP world championship, has until his home race in Catalunya on June 14 to inform Suzuki whether he will ride a factory GSV-R in 2010.

Suzuki has set the 24-year-old a Catalunya race deadline for an answer on his future so it can press ahead with its 2010 plans, with Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen both out of contract at the end of the season.

Suzuki has also been linked with Ben Spies, Dani Pedrosa and Marco Simoncelli.

Spanish sources told MCN: “There will be more meetings with Alvaro’s management in Barcelona. He would prefer to wait a bit longer, but it seems Suzuki is very keen for an answer.” Bautista, the 2006 world 125 champion, wants to delay his decision until he’s learned whether current 250GP team boss Jorge Martinez will move to MotoGP next season.
