Mika Kallio learning fast about MotoGP

Finnish rookie Mika Kallio believes adapting more to the stopping power of carbon brakes is his biggest margin for improvement ahead of his MotoGP debut next month.

Kallio, who will ride for the Pramac Ducati squad alongside fellow MotoGP novice Niccolo Canepa, has been impressive since his switch from the KTM 250GP team at the end of 2008.

He’s already shown himself capable of setting faster times than Nicky Hayden and Sete Gibernau, but he still believes he can get faster by adapting to the carbon brakes.

He told MCN: “For me it was difficult to get used to the carbon brakes it is completely different and I couldn’t feel how fast I could go into the corner and hard I could brake going into the corner.

“I’m still learning in this area. I also need to understand exactly which line I need to use and try and open the throttle a little bit earlier on the exit. Now my style is still a bit too much like a 250.

“I carry too much speed in the corner and I can’t open the throttle so early.”
