Le Mans MotoGP: 125 and 250 qualifying results, Redding leads the Brits

Le Mans MotoGP: Scott Redding second on 125GP grid
British rider Scott Redding missed claiming his maiden pole position in Le Mans today by just 0.093s.

The Blusens Aprilia rider will start tomorrow’s 24-lap lap race from second on the grid having just been pipped to his first world championship pole position by Spaniard Marc Marquez.

Redding’s best of 1.47.173 was a massive 0.6s clear of third placed Nicolas Terol as the 16-year-old claimed his first front row start since the Misano race last August. It was Redding’s best ever GP qualifying performance though and sets him up perfectly for an assault on his second world championship victory.

Redding, who created history in 2008 by becoming the youngest rider ever to win a world championship race with his success in the British GP at Donington Park, said: “I thought I might have had my first pole position but I’m happy to be on the front row. The team have really started to give me a good bike and I’m confident I can fight for the podium tomorrow.”

Jerez winner Bradley Smith looked like he would join Redding on the front row of the grid as he climbed into fourth place in the closing stages.

The session had started on a wet track after earlier rain but quickly dried out in windy conditions and Smith suffered an early crash in the damp conditions that had left him languishing down outside the top 20.

But he found his pace as the track dried and after his tumble the 18-year-old eventually had to settle for sixth place. Smith though could leave France as the world championship leader after series leader Andrea Iannone was left trailing down in 23rd place.

The Italian too crashed in the early damp conditions.
Danny Webb will start from 10th on the grid.
