Ben Spies doubts Jerry Burgess partnership

Ben Spies has conceded it is a remote dream to think he will get a golden chance to work under Valentino Rossi’s legendary crew chief Jerry Burgess next season.

The Texan will move to Yamaha’s factory team as Rossi’s replacement with the nine-times world champion agreeing a lucrative move to Ducati for 2011.

But the 26-year-old doubts his move to partner Jorge Lorenzo will see him handed the opportunity to work under Burgess, who was the technical brains behind Mick Doohan and Rossi’s domination of MotoGP.

Spies, who will be promoted from the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad, said: “It would be

really hard to see if Valentino left Yamaha that Jerry didn’t go with him. If Valentino is going to race for three more years then Jerry will work those and retire. He won’t want to take on me with eight years or something left in racing.

“It’s always a possibility and it would be awesome to be able to work with him but I can’t see it happening.”

Burgess will move to Ducati with Rossi in 2011.
