Brno MotoGP: Toni Elias banned from Moto2 practice

Toni Elias has been banned from taking part in today’s opening practice session for the Czech Republic Moto2 clash on Sunday.

The Spaniard and his Gresini squad broke strict rules on testing during the summer break when it was discovered Elias had tested at the Misano circuit on August 8.

As a result, the former MotoGP winner will not be allowed to take part in this afternoon’s one-hour practice session at the Brno circuit. The Gresini squad was also fined 3000 Euros and neither opted to appeal.

Elias, who rides with a Japanese built Moriwaki chassis, goes into Sunday’s race with a comfortable 42-point lead in the inaugural Moto2 series over Swiss rival Thomas Luthi.

Elias has won three races so far in 2010, including success at the last round in Germany.
