Ben Spies targets career best result at Indianapolis

Ben Spies has targeted a career best finish in this weekend’s Indianapolis MotoGP race.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider is hoping to better his stunning third place at the British Grand Prix in June when MotoGP makes its second visit to America in a month this week.

Spies has been in terrific form recently and he claimed another career milestone in Brno earlier this month when he stormed to his first ever front row start.

The Texan has scored five top six finishes in the last six races and looking ahead to round 11 of the series at the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Spies said: “At the home races you want to get your best result of the year and I’ve been on the podium already, so obviously it is being on the podium.

“But I’ve got to see how it plays out though I’m going to go as hard as I can.  I’m in a good position for a rookie on a satellite bike this year and I’m in the fight for fifth right now, so I need to be consistent.

“But if I have the pace I had in Brno at Indy then I’m going to put it on the line. You want to be good for your home fans and I tried at Laguna Seca but it didn’t work out so I’ll try again at Indy and just hope it all comes together.”

Spies was fighting his way into podium contention last month at the Laguna Seca circuit in California when he encountered a visor problem that left him in sixth.
