Cal Crutchlow unhurt in Valencia crash

Cal Crutchlow has walked away unscathed from a crash on the opening day of the 2011 winter testing schedule in Valencia this afternoon.

The Coventry rider lost the front of his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 at turn five, according to witnesses.

The left side of his YZR-M1 machine suffered only minor damage and he was able to walk away from the spill.

The former World Supersport champion is currently 14th on the timesheets and is faster than Loris Capirossi, new Moto2 world champion Toni Elias and fellow rookie Karel Abraham. 

Crutchlow has set a best time of 1.34.924. Jorge Lorenzo, the 2010 MotoGP world champion, is currently fastest with a quickest time of 1.32.511.

New factory Yamaha team-mate Ben Spies is second while Valentino Rossi is currently eighth on his factory Ducati debut with a  best time of 1.33.882.

Nicky Hayden also escaped unhurt when he crashed earlier this afternoon.
