Monsoon conditions cause havoc in Estoril

1 of 1

Monsoon conditions that battered the Estoril track caused havoc this afternoon with qualifying for all three Grand Prix classes postponed.

Torrential started to fall shortly after midday and gradually worsened leaving large parts of the circuit under standing water.

The 125 session that was supposed to start at 1.05pm local time was initially postponed and put back to 4.05pm.

But there was no let up in the adverse weather conditions and Race Direction decided to postpone all sessions shortly before the MotoGP qualifying session was due to start at 1.55pm.

A final decision on whether any action will occur today will be taken at 2.30pm. But there appears to be little prospect of any track action with the circuit continuing to be battered by heavy rain and strong winds.

Conditions were far from ideal earlier in the day and there were countless crashes including new world champion Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden in the MotoGP session.
