Aspar torn between Aprilia and Honda for 2014 MotoGP season

Spain’s high-profile Aspar MotoGP squad is torn over its future premier class plans, with options to remain as Aprilia’s number one outfit or buy Honda’s new production RC213V racer on the table.

The Aspar squad has dominated the new CRT category, with Aleix Espargaro producing a series of stunning performances on a high-spec machine based on the Aprilia RSV4 superbike.

Aspar team boss Gino Borsoi has been locked in talks with Aprilia to see whether it will be upgrading its ART machine for 2014.

Borsoi has also spoken at length with Honda about buying two production RC213V bikes and he told MCN: “The Honda project is one of the best because the bike is already done and it looks like a good package. If something changes with Aprilia then the Honda would be the best solution. 

“What we have with the Aprilia is a good bike and two years experience. We understand that bike and it would be difficult to throw all this away and start with something new like Honda. It depends a lot on Aprilia. If they want to come as a factory to MotoGP this would be the best solution for us. 

“But if Aprilia stay as now with a CRT bike then it makes sense to look at the Honda.”
