Yamaha: No doubt Lorenzo ‘back on it’ in Austin

Yamaha has no doubt that Jorge Lorenzo will be able to bounce back from the bitter disappointment of his early exit from the opening race of the season in Qatar when the world championship continues in Texas this weekend.

Lorenzo led the early moments of a pulsating Losail International Circuit opener but crashed out before a lap had even been completed to continue a troubled start to 2014 for the double MotoGP world champion.

The Spaniard has not been happy with changes to Bridgestone’s rear tyre during the winter, with a new heat layering having an impact on edge grip. That has hurt Lorenzo’s high cornering speed style and his early exit in Qatar has only added to his early season worries.

But Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis said he is convinced that Lorenzo will quickly be able to recover the form and confidence that carried him to eight victories in 2013.

Jarvis told MCN: “We had some problems in the Sepang and a couple of tests that didn’t go so well but Jorge came back in Phillip Island where the grip was good and he was in form and fast.  We had a difficult three days before the race (in Qatar) but he felt a lot better for the race and was quietly confident. Jorge’s mental side is his key strength and we have only had one race. There are 17 more to go and I have absolutely no doubt he will be back on it in the next race.”
