McPhee stuns with brilliant Phillip Island performance

Flying Scotsman John McPhee came within the width of a front wheel of breaking his podium duck before he ran into an unjust rollicking from hot-headed Efren Vazquez.

The RTG Honda rider was just 0.090s off the podium and close to a first top three for the second time in a week after his career best fourth in Japan

But McPhee’s latest heroic ride didn’t impress teammate Spaniard Vazquez, who claims an overtake by McPhee on the final lap at turn four had denied him a second win of the season.

McPhee, said: “These last two races I’ve been really strong and to be so close to the win again after a massive practice crash is brilliant. There was tension afterwards but in my eyes I didn’t do anything wrong. Efren seems to think I ran him off. He ran a bit wide at turn four, there was a gap and I went for it. There was no touch and it was the last lap. He was angry saying I ruined his chances of winning. If he was going to win he would have been at the front at the start of the last lap. I had plenty of opportunities to pass him and decided to sit behind and wait to the last lap and I am sure he would have done the same thing to me.”
